ALEX JAMES ::
Initially studying the craft in the steep learning curve of the Gold Coast affray, Alex quickly became a prominent player in a city where the underground set were reliant on dedicated party connections and knowledgeable scribes to trade in the deepness that was gaining a foothold in the underbelly of the glitter strip.
His involvement with the Elsewhere and Platinum operations, particularly his guidance of the Complex gatherings produced rapid results and pitched him against the likes of Moonbeam, Lutzenkirchen, and Ekkohaus.
In between all this busyness, Alex found himself making daytrips to Brisbane to meet with the Delicious crew, and Saturday Sessions at Birdees, as well as regarded displays at Global Gathering and Future Music Festival. Now a permanent resident of the city, he has acquainted himself further with the party crews Deeparture, Subtrakt, and Somadose. More recently, Alex has involved himself with Me + You, an outfit thinking outside the box, choosing boats, art galleries and other strange places to throw down next to Damian Lazarus and Sebo K.
Bringing a fresh bag of new breed deep techno and intelligent house, and hints of his own productive output, including releases and remixes for Mome Musique, Affin Recordings and upcoming presses with Little Fritter under their Nil By Mouth collaboration on Trazable. Across both DJing and production, Alex James is a musical statesman, and now finds himself at home in the Therapy booth.

The SUBTRAKT crew are back for their first party of the year and to kick it off we are pleased to be hosting some of the best up 'n' comer locals Brisbane has to offer.
ALEX JAMES
Alex has been turning heads for quite a while now with releases on labels such as Affin, Mome Musique Recordings and Trazable which have been getting support from some of the biggest names in the business. He's fast becoming one of Brisbane's favourites and we look forward to having him show us why.
RICHARD DOBSON
Richard began djing back in 2007 in the UK after 2 long summers in Ibiza that had a huge influence on him musically. He gradually starting playing at local nights Sheeps, Le Bloc and Armed to the Teeth. As he began to build his own music taste and with his move to live in Leeds, where the scene was building hugely, he and 4 others started running memorable after parties for back to basics, hosting the likes of Jamie Jones, Hector and Luke Solomon. As a result of this he began playing in the middle room at basics every other month, playing alongside the likes of Layo and Bushwacka, very wrong indeed's Tim Sheridan and Superfreq headman Mr C. Richard's first gig in Brisbane will be alongside Ben Watt, not a bad introduction, and we look forward to having him on board for some Subtrakt shenanigans.
MORITZ USLEBER ( MORITMOZ)
Originally from Munich, Germany, Moritz has become a regular on the Brisbane scene attending almost every underground party Brisbane has to offer. Arguably Subtrakt's number one supporter, it seemed fitting to reward Moritz for his dedication to our scene with his first ever gig.

Classixx return to Australia in February hitting Barsoma Saturday 13th. Their track "I'll Get You" has been one of the biggest tracks this summer. Check out the film clip shot by Mark The Cobra Snake.
Emerging from the sunny suburbs of Los Angeles, Tyler Blake and Michael David grew up to be a music school drop-out and a record label drop-out respectively... oh and they also produce killer sundrenched disco under the name CLASSIXX.
Barely into their twenties, Classixx have begun defining a new sound for the Los Angeles electronic music scene, with their Donna Summeresque grooves and pillowy synths catching the ears of music aficionados, fans and artists alike.
Their debut single "I'll Get You" came in the form of a midtempo disco pop stormer featuring Jeppe from Junior Senior and was released through Kitsune. Constantly in high demand for their remixes, the Classixx back catalogue speaks for itself with recent rerubs for the likes of Phoenix, Major Lazer, Holy Ghost!, Mayer Hawthorne and Yacht all highly anticipated and getting heavy play around the globe.
Easily one of our favourite breakthrough artists of the last twelve months, Classixx traverse the lines of disco, pop and balearic creating songs perfect for Summer dancefloors and singing & dancing like no ones watching.

KAZU KIMURA (Spain/Japan)
Kazu Kimura began his DJ career in 1987 playing at clubs in Tokyo and Nagano Japan at the age of 19. In 1989 Kazu created a multimedia concept with DJ Baby which fused together music, visuals and fashion and
then became part of mainstream club culture in Tokyo. After touring the USA Kazu began working on his own productions to be featured in Japanese DJ compilations. In 1994 he moved to Australia and quickly became one of the countries most wanted techno DJ’s. Soon after, Kazu was signed to “Touch”, one of Holland’s most renowned underground techno labels with whom he released his own productions.
Over the past 6 years Kazu has toured globally, playing in Germany, Spain, Holland, Eastern Europe, Asia and the USA. His unique and dynamic own style presents a hypnotic and hardgroove sound. Apart from playing his favourite industrial funk and Detriot techno classics, Kazu has returned to the studio and his plan for 2010 is to start his own label, “Conspira Records” under which his new material will be released.

SPOONBILL (Omelette/Melb)
Spoonbill is Melbourne based electronic producer and sound artist Jim Moynihan. Spoonbill’s latest call from the wild is both cerebral sonic entertainment and smoothly-beaten groove, coming together as a heavily edited fusion of live recorded instrumentation and fabricated electronica. From antique tones to genre-warping sound art, the spoonytune is a mastery of chaos. Enticing listeners with its smooth, shiny shell of downtempo groove, it breaks open to reveal a thick and fast-flowing yolk of intricate beat chemistry. The Spoonbill project was born from an egg on a mountaintop in 2002. Since then Spoony has played countless live shows across the globe and released 3 full length albums on his own label – Omelette Records.

james lavelle
scott walker//adrian matyear//cosmo cater

"I became a DJ because I couldn't Breakdance. And I was no good at Grafitti."
The Underground's loss, music's gain. Well, not in every sense - musically, James Lavelle (b. 1974 in Oxford, England) has been at the heart of the London underground for almost a decade. And in love with all kinds of music for all of his 27 years. Like the rest of us, it was the parental record collection that switched James Lavelle on to music, early Lavelle sets included the likes of Stevie Wonder and Deep Purple, an eclectic mix that was an embryonic blueprint both for James Lavelle as a DJ and for his label Mo Wax; good tunes are good tunes - the genre doesn't matter. But back to the young James. And hip-hop, the one style of music that initially captivated him. It wasn't just the music; the UK's fledgling hip-hop scene was as much about Tacchini as it was Whodini and the breaks were the rhythms for breakdancing. Which James couldn't do, not that it mattered, he was already sold on the breaks. Inspired by the sound systems put together by the likes of Afrikaa Bambaata in the States and by the Wild Bunch over in Bristol, James started buying records by the bucketload and providing the soundtracks to his home town Oxford's own blockparty scene. The first party he put on, at 15, made him enough money to get a pair of decks and with Oxford starting to run out of vinyl, London beckoned. There's probably no better example of right place, right time.
